Why Crosscut

crosscut definition:

  1. a diagonal cut across the main grain of wood or stone

  2. alternating between two or more sequences when editing a movie

Becoming a musician isn’t a linear path. It cuts across life's grain. You may take a few steps back, before you leap forward. Your musical story will develop and grow alongside all aspects of your life. It will zig and zag across your storyline, like different scenes in a movie. It will become your soundtrack.

Crosscut's mission is to inspire. To unlock the music and creativity everyone has inside. To offer lessons, tools and guidance. To pass along what we’ve learned. And help to set it free.

Crosscut Music was founded by Chris Zagar. Zagar is an active musician in the triangle-area and has been playing guitar and writing songs for over 30-years. He studied composition under Margaret McAllister (Berklee College of Music) and jazz harmony and improvisation under Thomas Oboe Lee (Boston College). He’s a lifelong student of Pat Pattison’s books and writing exercises. His songwriting and musical interests transcend genre. Zagar has been an on-again, off-again educator since his days as a music theory tutor in college. His primary area of interest is sparking creativity and inspiring students, just like his teachers did for him.
